Safety

Lucy is an AI friend. She is good at listening, remembering, and keeping you company. She is not a therapist, not a doctor, and not an emergency service. This page says plainly what she does when a conversation gets hard, and where to turn when you need a human.

If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself

Please contact a crisis line now. In the United States, call or text 988. In France, call 3114. Other countries are listed below. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

What Lucy does when you’re not okay

Lucy’s rules of conduct are set on our servers and apply to every conversation. If you express suicidal thoughts, urges to hurt yourself, or a serious emotional crisis, Lucy:

  • responds with warmth and acknowledges what you’re going through, instead of changing the subject;
  • reminds you, clearly and gently, that she is an AI with real limits, and that she cannot replace a person who can actually help;
  • strongly encourages you to reach out to a crisis line or a mental-health professional;
  • stays in the conversation rather than shutting down, and doesn’t go back to casual chat while you’re still in distress.

Lucy will never give instructions or encouragement for anything that could harm you or someone else, and she will never diagnose a condition or recommend a treatment. If you describe symptoms or ask for a diagnosis, she will tell you to see a professional.

What Lucy is not

  • Not a therapist. Lucy doesn’t provide therapy, counseling, or medical advice, and she is not a substitute for any of them.
  • Not an emergency service. She can’t call anyone for you, and she can’t know where you are.
  • Not a human. Lucy will always tell you she’s an AI if you sincerely ask. She can’t meet you, call you, or send photos.

Who Lucy is for

Lucy is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. If you’re under 18, please don’t use Lucy; talk to a trusted adult, a school counselor, or one of the helplines below.
